Reebok Taiwan's No Pants Day

Otherwise known as Taiwan Panty Raiders, this is a report/edit of a post I did last year which had the video get taken off youtube.

The Challenge

Once the leading sports brand in Taiwan, Reebok's brand awareness in the country had been squeezed by competitors. With the challenge of announcing Reebok's re-entry into the Taiwan market, the agency was tasked with strategizing a creative campaign to support the launch of Reebok's EasyTone sneakers, changing perceptions of Reebok and positioning it as a relevant brand to a new generation of consumers.
The Solution

The agency concluded that a campaign that had a strong visual impact and novel content would be imperative in driving awareness amongst consumers. This campaign was Reebok's take on 'No Pants Day' often celebrated abroad. Inheriting the spirit of the original event, Taiwan's 'No Pants Day' was designed to be bold while linking to the notion of being healthy, being sporty and being yourself which insights told us would chime well with our audience. The strategy entailed targeting key MRT (metro trains) and public locations during busy commute time with a staged flash mob of trouser-less models to show the benefits of EasyTone in a fun, but daring way. These visuals triggered an online and offline viral effect which formed part of the agency's integrated multi-phase, two-month campaign that incorporated digital outreach, traditional media, in-store events and advertising to create experiences for consumers across a variety of touch points.

The Results * Sales grew 20% in March 2011 following the agency campaign * Total Ad Value: US$1,285,400 * Generated 295 media clippings, 98 of them broadcast. All TV news channels in Taiwan covered the news. * Seven out of twelve TV news channels described Reebok as a "leading" and "famous" brand * Ten broadcast channels reported on "No Pants Day" during prime time * Video on YouTube generated 733,496 views as of 4/08/2011

Apparently even in more conservative asian countries sex still sells!

Noodling for catfish...

These americans really know how to do extreme fishing! Never heard about this until I watched the latest episode of Cougar town and went to look it up.

Wiki : Noodling is fishing for catfish using only bare hands, practiced primarily in the southern United States. Many other names, such as catfisting, grabbling, graveling, hogging, dogging, gurgling, tickling and stumping, are used in different regions for the same activity.

Eastwood Korea meets China

Fantastic sunny weather with a light cool breeze today. Went to Burwood to stock up on fresh soya milk and korean fish-shaped red bean ice cream today. On the way back, met a massive traffic jam on the M4 so I just turned up to the M3 and zoomed down to Eastwood for some more shopping. As there was a small jam right before i got there which wasn't moving, I decided to park and walk.

Crossing the train station, I arrived at the pedestrian walk in the town center. Passed by a jap themed cafe called sosaku where a chinese couple were still celebrating V-day with a meal of tonkatsu. (the girl had a bunch of red roses on the table)


This was what I saw hanging from the awnings. Bet you are as surprised as I was today, never seen this in my life. 청사초롱(Cheongsa-chorong) is what they call those korean lanterns, Though these were not made of high quality cloth as some of those in Korea. Interspersed were big Chinese lanterns, I wonder how this would look at night. Hmm very very so interesting neh!

Ok so I read wiki and apparently Korean New Year is generally the same day as Chinese New Year, Mongolian New Year, Tibetan New Year and Vietnamese New Year. As you can see the Chinese here seem to be on very good terms with the Koreans in Eastwood. Yes indeed, on one side of the train station you have rows of chinese shops and on the other side you have rows of korean shops, and I have never seen any violent looking asian triad members or gangs lurking around, thank god.

Today is day 3 of Chinese lunar new year and yes the industrious chinese are back at work, so is everyone else. (In Australia chinese new year is not a national holiday YET. hehe ;P)


As I walked down towards my usual fish monger and grocery shop, surprise surprise, all around the chinese section of Eastwood town center, someone had pasted this poster on all the walls. Jackie chan looks sooo cute in this poster for his new movie Jackie Chan’s ‘Little Big Soldier’(actually 大兵小将 should be translated as big soldier small general)

Yes he has done it again, another new film for celebrating the chinese new year, keep it up jackie chan! Let's hope this one is as good as shinjuku incident. Can't wait for the wife to come back and go watch it!

Was reading about how Quentin Tarantino attended the Golden Globes wearing a tuxedo/kimono combi and how he wore a phillipine national barong tagalog few years back as well.

Orange Coloured Capsicums

Saw these while shopping the other day. Normally they are red, green or yellow in color, much like chillis. It was really unusual to see orange colored ones. Maybe they will make some purple or blue ones next time. Ever seen other colors at your local supermarket?

Pseudo Swine Flu

My take on the swine flu that's affecting our world today...

As per wikipedia and substantiated by press releases, it appears :

The 2009 flu outbreak in humans that is widely known as "swine flu" technically is not swine flu. It is due to a new strain of influenza A virus subtype H1N1 that derives from one strain of human influenza, one strain of avian influenza, and two separate strains of swine influenza. The origins of this new strain are unknown, and the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) reports that this strain has not been isolated in swine. It passes with apparent ease from human to human, an ability attributed to an as-yet unidentified mutation. The strain in most cases causes only mild symptoms and the infected person makes a full recovery without requiring medical attention and without the use of antiviral medicines.

So it seems even if you get this flu, its probably just another new strain, maybe just more powerful than those before, but certainly not as life-threatening as the previous SARS outbreak. It seems that pigs don't have it, that means this may have been a strain that came about either on a farm that had a farmer, a pig and a chicken, or maybe it was engineered by some curious microbiologist in Mexico!

So whilst having dinner today, I suggested that we have had mad cow's disease, the avian flu, now swine flu, maybe next in line would be sheep or goat flu. Well I just got over a bad bacterial cold, cross my fingers this flu doesn't come to Malaysia!
